There are many myths and fallacies that surround hypnosis. It has been, for many years, shrouded in mystery and the occult. But in reality, hypnosis is a science. Many people are not aware of the fact
that hypnosis/hypnotherapy has been an accepted and recognized therapy by the American Medical Association since the 1950s. It is also recognized for its valuable medical uses by the British Medical Association.
Many doctors have and are still using hypnosis. Even Freud used hypnosis in his early years. Of all the years that hypnosis has been used, there is, to my knowledge, no documented proof that hypnosis is
or has ever been harmful.
Hypnosis should not be used to take the place of modern medicine, but can be a viable tool when used in conjunction with modern medicine or counseling. It has been proven to be extremely effective
with pain control, lowering high blood pressure, and post surgery healing. It is widely used for stress, relaxation, concentration and recall, as well as helping with addictions.
The Following are some of the more popular myths and fallacies
A hypnotist has unusual, Svengali-like powers, or magical abilities.
A hypnotist can control people and make them do what he/she wishes even against their will.
A hypnotist can hypnotize anyone anytime by telepathic means.
A hypnotist can hypnotize anyone against his or her will.
People can be made to commit immoral and illegal acts, even murder, without awareness.
You are a slave that must obey your master when you are in hypnosis.
Some people may never wake up from hypnosis.
Hypnosis is dangerous.
You can go crazy or lose you mind.
When in hypnosis your soul can be possessed.
It is anti-Christian and the work of the devil.
Only a person with a weak will or lower intelligence can be hypnotized.
To some of you these myths may sound sophomoric, even silly. However, to many these are truths. I know this to be true because I have witnessed it first hand.
